June 21, Drangey Island
This is a postcard photo of Drangey Island. The island is about 100 meters
high. The stone pillar just offshore, The Trollwife, is 50 meters high.
Our boat landed in the middle of the island in this picture.
The first half of the climb to the top was up loose gravel to the saddle
between the left and right halves of the island. Then we
turned right and went around a dangerous rock edge where there were
spikes driven into the rock wall for handholds. The last 10 meters of the climb
was up a metal ladder.
Since the island is home to over a million puffins and other birds it
was loud and messy on the cliffs.
